North Coast Brewing in Fort Bragg, Calif., sells two kinds of beer brittle in its retail outlet. Acme Beer Brittle incorporates North Coast's Acme Pale Ale, and Brother Thelonius Brittle is made with its Belgian Abbey–style ale. "The brittles are a good gift or souvenir," notes retail manager David Fouheaux. Cracked brittle pieces are also mixed in with the house-made ice cream served in North Coast's taproom. Both beer brittles are custom-made for the brewery by Anette's Chocolates of Napa Valley. Anette's was a pioneer in beer confections, says Mary Stornetta, director of sales for the Napa, Calif., company.
