After Hurricane Katrina, her mission became clear. BY JULIE BESONENĀ  K risten Preau and her family were among the lucky ones who evacuated New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina hit and became one of the deadliest disasters ever to make landfall in the United States. Preau had graduated that May from the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg and had just accepted her first career-track job, doing marketing for the athletic department at the University of New Orleans.
