Summer Fancy Food Show Booth 454 trends & happenings OLIVE OIL'S CALIFORNIA PIONEER Olive oil aficionado Sara Wilson, co-owner of Market Hall Foods and The Pasta Shop in Oakland, Calif., received the California Olive Oil Council's Pioneer Award in April for her decades of support and promo- tion of California oils. As managing partner of the family-owned spe- cialty shop, Wilson has made signif- icant contributions to the olive oil industry, now the fastest-growing crop in the state, according to the COOC. "She is definitely a vision- ary," said Patricia Darragh, execu- tive director of the California Olive Oil Council. "When the industry was just a handful of people … she was at the forefront of supporting California agriculture and taking olive oil seriously." Wilson has continually sought out new producers, promoting them in her store with tastings and education on what makes top- notch oil. She has trained numer- ous staffers, many of which have gone on to contribute in their own ways to the state's industry, from marketing to agriculture. "We are not the 'drizzle' types," she notes.
