TIE LARK FINE FOODS Scourtins RARELY DOES A COMPANY RECEIVE TWO SOFI GOLD AWARDS in the same year, but Lark Fine Foods is not your average company. "We are so honored and excited," says founder Mary Ann McCormick. The French-style wafers walk the line between cracker and cookie, making Scourtins all the more satisfying. At first glance, some may mistake Scourtins to be packed with bits of dark chocolate, when in fact the rich shortbreads contain cured black olives. Dusted with sea salt and yet subtly sweet, the crackers epitomize the current trend of combining these contrasting tastes. Founded in 2008 in Essex, Mass., Lark Fine Foods is run by a mother-daughter team that doesn't shy away from bold, unique flavor profiles. By handcrafting, baking and packing their own products, the company ensures the highest quality goods. "Everything we do here has a personal touch," McCormick says. Fresh and all-natural ingredients contribute to the appeal, and range from fennel to rum. (After all, their slogan is "Cookies for Grown-ups.") With product names like Cha- Chas and CocoLocos, Lark Fine Foods shows its cookies have a lighthearted and fun side too—"the way they should be," McCormick adds. Scourtins provide an intriguing base for strong and mild cheeses but taste just as good on their own as a snack or dessert. Other popular treats to try include Salted Rosemary Shortbread (2011 sofi Silver Finalist) and Whole Grain Lady Birds (2012 sofi Gold Winner for Outstanding Cookie, p. S16). Suggested retail price: $5.50–$5.95/6 ounces. Contact: Mary Ann McCormick, Lark Fine Foods; 978.768.0012; maryann@larkfinefoods.com; larkfinefoods.com.—A.M.
