Man, was I mistaken! In fact, it turns out the total absence of structure is just as constricting as a series of autocratically instituted, ironclad codes of order. Given a total blank page, most people will do nothing, or even start to panic. The more productive approach, I've learned from both reading and three decades of management work, is to provide structures that essentially encourage people to bring their creative selves to the fore without quashing that self-same creative spirit. For us to be effective as leaders in this area, we want to adopt healthy regimens, repeatable systems and freely followed processes that will help us tap our own creativity. 4.
