HIGH-TECH FOOD DELIVERY P lacing an order, whether for lunch, a birthday cake or pizza, is getting easier with a variety of new innovations that get the order to the kitchen through cyberspace. TOUCHPAD MENUS: This trend has been growing in restaurants around the world for the past three years. Toronto's Pearson International Airport recently introduced iPad menus at many of its eateries, like Massimo Capra's new outpost Boccone, Fetta Panini Bar by Mark McEwan and Devin Connell's Heirloom Bakery Cafe. The iPad menus display restaurants' options in 12 languages, from Arabic to Spanish. Airport food and beverage operator OTG, with more than 175 restaurants and retail boutiques in 10 airports, aims to roll out 2,500 iPads as part of its program at Pearson Airport. CLOUD–BASED SYSTEMS: Streamlining systems are in play at Carlo's Bake Shop, made famous by owner Buddy Valastro and his TLC reality show "Cake Boss." The bakery has implemented a cloud-based cake-ordering system called Cakeforce. The system is especially useful during high-traffic seasons when cake orders jump from 80 to 200 per day up to 300 to 400 orders. Employees also use Cakeforce to transfer images, data and voice traffic to the retailer's flagship Hoboken store. XBOX ORDERING: For gamers who are hungry but won't budge from the couch, Xbox 360 now lets users order Pizza Hut products via the Xbox Live dashboard. Poised to become a vehicle to order a variety of retail goods, for now, gamers can revel in the ease of using this new app to satiate their hunger for the chain's pizza, pasta, wings and breadsticks.
