To keep up with rising product demand, Puro Chile is eyeing Miami, Washington, D.C., Brazil and parts of Asia for potential expansion of its retail concept. The retailer has also begun to mar- ket products under its own label to increase awareness; its private- label line currently comprises three products: extra-virgin olive oil, manjar (a type of dulce de leche) and lucúma fruit, with more in development for 2013. Banchieri credits the mining rescue and earthquake of recent years for helping to increase global consumer awareness of Chile. "While it's hard to measure the specific impact the two events had on gourmet food, Chile's immediate and compassionate response to both events captured the world's attention and advanced a much more modern perception of the country," he says, "which is very good for our gourmet food industry." |SFM| TO SEE A GALLERY OF IMAGES FROM CHILE visit specialtyfood.com/ onlinehighlights.
